Embracing Diversity

Teaching in this day and age means that we are faced with a diverse student population. The teaching profession must embrace that diversity and seek to meet the needs of the students that are sitting in the classrooms. No longer can we rest of what we knew about students and learning from ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. We must be willing to learn about students today, embrace their diversity and shift our approach to teaching to meet the needs of students. The only change we can facilitate is the change within us as an educator.

  1. Your post is so true. I had the conversation just this week with a grade level of teachers about the fact that we cannot change the students nor the circumstances that they come to school with. The only thing that we can change is our instructional approach to the students. That instruction approach that is reflective and observant of the needs of the students. That type of approach that is flexible enough that if it is not meeting the needs of the diverse population it must be adjected. Our locus of control is us as the teacher!
